Bet you didn’t know that the Dirty Martini’s popularity is directly intertwined with Franklin Delano Roosevelt who made the cocktail for Joseph Stalin during the Tehran Conference of WWII? Obviously not one of the first things that comes to mind when you bring up our 32nd President in conversation, but there you have it, good piece of potential chit chat. This is of course simply a Martini with olive brine.
3 parts Vodka or Gin
1 Part Dry Vermouth
Light splash of Olive Brine
Martini’s are very personal so everyone is going to like it their own way, the above mix is pretty standard from any bar. The cocktail olives can be vermouth soaked, or not, but the latter is suggested. Typically ice is added to your shaker, vodka vermouth and brine, slowly added over, keep it chill. Mix or shake and strain. Easy. Savory. Yummy.
And to leave you with this, when was the last time you A) read any type of an article that mentioned Joseph Stalin and Happy Hour and B) when was the last time you were given an opportunity to talk about Joseph Stalin at Happy Hour?
